Using Maps on Reports

Some reports also give a map view that supports particular data. Currently there are two different types of maps, Bing maps and Mapbox maps.

Quick Navigation

Bing Maps

Bing maps are the most common maps that are used inside of reports. While there is no heads-up display (HUD) on these maps, the ability to move and zoom the map is available.

Zoom In

There are multiple ways to zoom into a Bing map

  • Using scroll - typically performed on a mouse wheel. Some trackpads also support gestured based scrolling too
  • Double-click on the map
  • Hold shift and click and drag a selection box around the desired zoom location (seen above)

Zoom Out

With Bing maps, zooming out can only be achieved by scrolling, typically with a mouse wheel. The map can be reset to normal if the report is refreshed, however other filters will be refreshed too.

Pan (Move)

Moving the map is pretty easy. Simply click and hold over the map, and move the mouse around.

Mapbox Maps

Mapbox maps are used in certain situations where giving the user the ability to select multiple assets by location is valuable.

Selection Types

One of the benefits of Mapbox maps is the ability to select multiple assets using different selection tools

  • Freeform Select
    • Using the Lasso Tool, the user has the ability to click once on the map and then draw around the desired assets. Once the selection has been drawn, click once more to complete the selection
  • Polygon Select
    • Using the Polygon Tool, the user has the ability to create anchor points around a selection. Not as fast as the Lasso Tool, the Polygon Tool offers more precision. Once the selection has been drawn, click an already placed anchor point to complete the selection
  • Shift-Click Select
    • The easiest and quickest way to select assets is by simply holding the shift key, then click and drag the mouse cursor over the assets. While this is quick, the shape that is drawn may not be precise enough for the user to select the desired assets

Zoom In

  • Double-click on the map
  • Click the Plus (+) icon at the top right of the map

Zoom Out

  • Using scroll - typically performed on a mouse wheel. Some trackpads also support gestured based scrolling too
  • Click the Minus (-) icon at the top right of the map

Pan (Move)

Moving the map is pretty easy. Simply click and hold over the map, and move the mouse around.

Tilt and Rotate

  • Hold the right click mouse button. Moving side to side will rotate, back and forth will tilt.
  • Click and hold the North/South button located at the top right of the map

To reset the rotation on, single click the North/South button

Auto Zoom

The Magnifier button at the top right toggles between Auto Zoom on and off. If Auto Zoom is set to On, the map will automatically move and zoom to fit any filtering that is triggered on the report. If Auto Zoom is set to Off, the map will not move when filtering is triggered.
